I’m an Italo-German-born-now-Andalucía-based Anglophile who clearly took the aim of ‘becoming fluent’ in Spanish too far. I learned my first Spanish words at the age of 17 at school in Germany. Fast forward 15 odd years and I’m in a decade-long relationship with a Spaniard who needs to move closer to family resulting in us moving from leafy North London to Cadiz early in 2025.
What can I say, as a vampire-pale vegetarian and former London Art Pass holder, moving to one of the most Southern corners of Europe has been quite the adjustment.
So What Now is the attempt to meet this transition with curiosidad, reigniting my passion for a language that has long become the background music to my everyday. Every other week, I share episodes of what it’s like to live here and stories that illustrate the meaning of some of my favourite Spanish terms and expressions.
If that sounds fun, come along! A ver si esta guiri saldrá gaditana…
I started this blog when I was still living in London. To read what I wrote then, take a look at my earlier posts.
